Importance of Ergonomics in Seating

Bevco Ergonomic Seating

Written by - Sylvia Williams

Ergonomic furniture is a valuable investment in the health and productivity of a workforce, resulting in increased focus, less fatigue, fewer work injuries, and less time off work.

Research has demonstrated that implementing ergonomic intervention measures can yield a return on investment of 17:1. This means that for every $1 a company invests in good ergonomics, they can expect to see a return of $17. This return can be seen in the form of increased productivity, reduced instances of musculoskeletal injuries, and better recruitment and retention rates due to a more comfortable, satisfied, and happier workforce.

IMPORTANCE OF ERGONOMICS

Ergonomics

WHAT IS IT?

Ergonomics allow workers to do their jobs safely, comfortably and accurately.

A good ergonomic workspace takes into consideration many types of furniture, devices and tools, such as workbenches, CHAIRS, lighting, etc. to prevent soft tissue injuries - musculoskeletal disorders (MSDS)

Ergonomics

MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS (MSD)

Employees who spend many hours at a workstation may develop ergonomic- related problems resulting in MSD's. High repetition tasks and awkward postures have the highest risk factors to developing an MSD.

The most common MSD is back pain followed by sprains/strains and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Ergonomics

IMPACT OF MSD'S

MSD's account for 1/3 of all workers compensation costs. Direct costs ave. $35K. Indirect costs (lost productivity, absenteeism, etc.) can be up to 5x higher than direct costs.

MSD cases require 38% more time away from work than the average injury (11 days vs 8 days)

Ergonomics

THE SOLUTION

Invest in ergonomic equipment!

Studies have shown that work-related MSD injuries can be reduced up to 65% and productivity increased by 17.7% when using an ergonomic chair along with proper ergonomic training.

Once you’ve received your Bevco chair, follow these tips to enjoy all the ergonomic benefits of your new chair.

Back Support

Maintain good posture while sitting by keeping your back straight. Slouching can cause unnecessary strain on your neck and back. Ensure that your lumbar support is adjusted to fit the natural curve of your spine so that you do not put your weight in the wrong place. Position your chair as close to your work as possible, so that you do not have to lean or reach excessively. Lastly, make sure to readjust your chair back to the proper ergonomic position every time you return to it

Back Support

It is important to make sure that your arms are always supported to avoid unnecessary pain. If your arms are not supported, the muscles of your neck and shoulders will have to work harder than they need to, which can lead to discomfort and pain. Rest your elbows at a 90° angle and keep your wrists in a neutral position to help support your arms. This will ensure that the weight of your arms is properly distributed, and you can work in comfort

Back Support

BEVCO offers three different tilt options to suit everyone's needs. Tilting the seat pan forward can help alleviate pressure on the lower back, promoting healthy spinal posture. Additionally, this movement helps to increase blood flow, which is beneficial for spinal health. Reclining at an angle of 100° to 110° can help keep your hips and spine aligned. It's important to maintain a stable, neutral posture, especially when sitting.

Back Support

Remember to adjust the height of your chair so that your feet rest flat on the floor and your legs form a 90° angle. If you're working on a taller surface, it's best to use a footrest to avoid your feet from dangling. This will enhance lower body circulation, preventing your legs from falling asleep

Investing in your health and wellness is a wise decision that can yield tremendous rewards. By taking care of your physical health, you can enjoy a better quality of life and achieve your goals with greater ease. So don't hesitate - prioritize your health today and start reaping the benefits of a Bevco chair!
