A few years back, we told you about a couple of free and unique how-to soldering resources. Here's a quick update on these cool, fun comic book style tutorials: "Soldering Is Easy" and "SMT Soldering - It's Easier Than You Think!"

Originally released in 2010 by Mitch Altman, Andie Nordgren, and Jeff Keyzer, "Soldering Is Easy" has now been updated and translated into 21 other languages. Using a sense of humor and eye-catching graphics, the authors teach about solder types, soldering irons, electronic circuits, printed circuit boards (PCBs), preventing tip oxidation, making good solder connections, safety issues, and what kind of equipment you'll need.For soldering newbies, you'll enjoy the way the text and images work together to provide a foundation of soldering knowledge. For those more experienced, we think you'll enjoy the humor used to make the information memorable.

SMT SOLDERING - IT'S EASIER THAN YOU THINK!
"Soldering Is Easy" then inspired another handy resource: "SMT Soldering - It's Easier Than You Think!" This 18-page comic book tutorial offers excellent tips about Surface Mount Technology.Created by Greg Peek and Dave Roberts of SiliconFarmers.com, "SMT Soldering" points out techniques and the best tools needed to complete most SMT projects quickly and easily. Using fun graphics and a sense of humor, the authors point out the differences between SMT and through-hole, why you need good ESD/anti-magnetic tweezers, the types of magnifiers that will be useful, and other supplies (such as solder braid, solder flux, tip cleaners, etc.) you'll need for successful SMT work.
